Nomzamo Nyadi is a talented scriptwriter and graduate from the Durban University of Technology (DUT). In 2022, she produced a short film script “The Silent Sounds” which won her the Best Scriptwriter Award in DUT’s Department of Drama and Production Studies. She was also nominated for Best Student Director for the short film “The Red Suitcase” written by Philisiwe Twijnstra and which premiered at the Courtyard Theatre. With her passion for writing and producing, she will work with the Centre’s Isiphethu programme curator to grow the profile of the Centre’s annual IsiZulu Film Scriptwriting programme and to develop the IsiPhethu learning programmes as formal offerings presented by the Centre for Creative Arts. As a qualified actress, director, and scriptwriter, she will also work the curatorial team of the Durban International Film Festival to coordinate meetings and logistics for the festival’s programmers and jury. Nomzamo’s current biggest highlights are ITSHE, a departmental production which she was nominated for the award for 2021 Best Actress of the Year, and a nomination for her performance in IZULU, a production that took place at the Playhouse Company Theatre in 2022. Nomzamo has also worked as an intern at the wardrobe department in Uzalo and has collaborated with several creatives in scriptwriting, theatre plays and music. She has recently been selected to participate in the 2023 National Scriptwriter Retreat.
