Aphiwokuhle Moyo joins the Centre for Creative Arts as a nominee of the 4th Annual Sebenza Women Awards that took place in September 2022. Hailing from Port Shepstone, KwaZulu Natal, she describes herself as a small town girl with big dreams. Trained as a professional photographer who obtained her diploma at the Durban University of Technology specialising in Portrait Photography, Aphiwokuhle has participated in several photographic projects that have already set the foundation for her career in visual literacy. During her internship, she will work alongside the Centre’s archive team to photograph and document the Centre’s festivals. She will also join the Centre’s Artfluence Human Rights festival team to use images to document progressive and positive narratives about the African continent and of Africans from the diaspora. By also working with the curatorial team of the Durban International Film Festival and specifically on the Isiphethu International Student Film Festival, she will play a vital role in growing the festival as a platform for student film-makers to tell their own and other people’s stories through an original African lens.
