The Centre for Creative Arts calls for applications from KwaZulu-Natal-based recent graduates to apply for a 12 month Emerging Arts Manager internship. The internship is office-based at the Centre for Creative Arts at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Successful applicants will work under the direct supervision on the Centre’s management team. The internship requires a commitment of working towards stringent timelines for the Centre’s festival. A passion for the arts and aspirations to pursue a career in the cultural and creative industries will be advantageous.
Office Manager Intern:
The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of the Centre’s Senior Administrator. The internship is suitable for a candidate who wishes to pursue a career in arts administration. Duties will include:
- Attending to front desk duties
- Managing the Centre’s mail box
- Managing boardroom schedules
- Scheduling and record minutes of meetings
- Maintaning data-bases & updating inventories
- Sending out invitations and receiving rsvp’s for CCA festivals & events
- Filing of records
- Office hospitality for Centre’s guests and social events
- General Office upkeep : checking, reporting & following up on services
Finance Office Intern:
The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of the Centre’s Finance Officer. The internship is suitable for a candidate who wishes to pursue a career in finance administration in a cultural organisation. The candidate must have a fine eye for detail and work to strict deadlines. Duties will include:
- Working from spreadsheets to solicit relevant documents artists and service providers to process their payments
- Assist with reviewing payrolls to confirm that monthly payments have been processed
- Maintain files of quotes, invoices, reports and relevant documents
- Participate in festival production meetings and engage on finance-related matters on the agenda
Graphics design Intern:
The successul candidate will work under the direct supervision of the Centre’s festival curators. Candidates with qualifications in graphic design and with a strong portfolio of illustrations or other graphics and familiarity with design software and technologies are invited to apply for this internship. Shortlisted candidates for interview will be required to present a portfolio of work and will be expected complete a project assignment as part of the interview to demonstrate a passion for creative expression. The internship is suitable for a candidate who wishes to pursue a communications career in a cultural organisation. Duties will include:
- Work closely with the Centre’s festival curators to conceptualise and create social media content, graphics and designs for the Centre’s festivals
- Work together with the Centre’s web management team to constantly update the Centre’s website to keep it interesting, attractive and informative
- To liaise with the Centre’s curators to design and secure merchandise and branding for the Centre’s festivals
- Manage and set up social media advertisments according to an allocated budget
- Support the Centre’s digital market research strategies
- Assist with obtaining analytics & statistic for reporting purposes.
Communications & Marketing Intern:
The successul candidate will work under the direct supervision of the Centre’s Director. Candidates with qualifications in communications strong writing skills are invited to apply for this internship. Shortlisted candidates for interview will be required to expected complete a project assignment as part of the interview to demonstrate a passion for writing promotional content. The internship is suitable for a candidate who wishes to pursue a career in strategic communications in a cultural organisation. Duties will include:
- Work under the supervision of the Centre’s Director to research content for funding proposals and reports
- Conceptualise and create draft press releases for the Centre’s festivals and events
- Maintain a database of media networks and distribute relevant content to media networks.
- Liaise with festival curators to obtain production synopses, artist biographies and other relevant collateral to support the Centre’s marketing brief
- Monitor the box office statistics for the Centre’s festivals and liaise with the Centre’s social media team to grow audience development
- Maintain a database of loyal audiences and subscribers.
- Ensure logo’s of sponsors & partners is applied on the Centre’s promotional materials according to corporate guidelines and contractual agreements prior to sign off.
DIFF Programme Co-Ordination Intern:
The Programme Co-Ordination Intern works under the direct supervision of the Durban International Film Festival Manager to support the planning, coordination and administration necessary to deliver a successful international film festival. Experience in the planning, coordinating and the successful delivery of a project. The internship is suitable for candidate with excellent organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines. The candidate must also have good communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with people at all levels as well excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Suite. The internship is suitable for a candidate who intends to pursue a career in cultural administration. Duties will include:
* Assist with managing the DIFF Mailbox
* Coordinate the film submissions process – update FilmFreeway, assign films to reviewers, track film reviewers’ progress, liaise with film reviewers in support of their work
* Administratively support the film selection process – draft invitations and follow up on acceptances
* Collate film information and marketing materials
* Assist with crosschecks and proofreading
* Administratively support applications to the Film and Publication Board
* Coordinate the timely receipt of exhibition materials – DCPs, KDMs, MP4s etc.
* Assist with creating and coordinating schedule – public screenings, jury screenings and Q&As
* Assist with managing juries – liaise with jurors in support of their duties, gather citations etc.
* Assist with troubleshooting technical problems with screenings
* Maintain digital filing system and database
Applicants for each of the above posts must be South African citizens based in KwaZulu-Natal who have a Matriculation Certificate and either a Degree or Diploma from an accredited institution of higher learning. Persons who have been engaged in a previous YES YOUTH employment programme are not eligible to apply. Suitable apllicants may apply for one post only.
