jrg-halterJürg Halter, born in 1980 in Bern (Switzerland), is a poet, performer, writer, and the editor and co-publisher of art.21-zeitdruk, the Swiss literature and art magazine. In 2000 art.21-zeitdruk was awarded the Special Prize of the Literary Commission of the City of Berne. Halter writes lyrics and essays as well as poetry, and studies art in Berne, where he has organized many literary events. He has published in Neue Deutsche Literatur, a prominent German literary magazine, and later in 2002 his publications will appear in the Anthology Natürlich die Schweizer! Neues von Paul Nizon, Peter Stamm, Ruth Schweikert u.a. Jürg Halter has performed at many festivals and poetry slam competitions.

At the German National Poetry Slam 2000 in Dusseldorf, Halter was awarded second place in the teams finals together with Swiss partners Tom Combo and Suzanne Zahnd. He was a participant in the Poetry International Poetry Slam in Rotterdam in 2001, and in Thun performed alongside the Bachmann-awardwinner for 2001, Michael Lentz. Halter was the youngest writer in the Solothurner Literaturtagen, the biggest and most important literature festival of Switzerland. He has also performed in the Goethe Institutes in Amsterdam and Rotterdam and in the German Library in The Hague. In 2001 he performed at the Frankfurt Book Fair and was writer-in-residence at the Wintertuin Literature Festival, Nijmwegen, Netherlands. Halter is a dynamic performance poet, sometimes mixing music and rap trends into his entertaining presentations.
