LUKAS MKUTI was born in Mozambique but grew up in Tanzania . When Mozambique became independent in 1975 he returned to Mozambique where he taught at Escola Secundaria Josina Machel , the largest high school in Mozambique . Working with students, he edited a book of poetry entitled Breakfast of Sjamboks. He has had a number of his poems published in journals and magazines in South Africa and abroad, and his collection of poetry, The Strange Mask , is yet to be published. Mkuti currently works at the University of Limpopo in the Faculty of Humanities, where he has founded a poetry club, Turf Poetry Society . The National Arts Council has recently awarded the Society a grant to publish a poetry book. Mkuti is also a motivational speaker and goes out to schools to encourage learners to stay in school and to have a positive outlook on life and to work harder.
