andrea-dondolo-south-africaAndrea Dondolo, A daughter of the Eastern Cape , poet and praise singer, Andrea studied Human Movement Studies at the University of the Western Cape as well as Drama and Performance at the New Africa Theatre Association. Andrea has extensive experience as both a television actress and a theatre performer and writer.

As a playwright she debuted with Beading MySoul , a collaboration between Calabash Storytellers and The Mother Tongue Project. She comments: “It was part of my journey to rediscover the treasure of storytelling and praise singing.” The show pays a tribute to women bead artists and the role they play as cultural guardians. The show played at Grahamstown National Arts Festival's main program in 2002 and went on to be part of the Women`s Festival at the Market Theatre, State Theatre, Macufe and Calabash.

Other works with Mother Tongue are Unkulunkuluand Space of Dreams . With Calabash Storytellers, she has written and performed in plays such as Oruka, Great Love, and Storytellers Rumble . In 2006, they went on a month long storytelling tour of the Eastern Cape performing Bantu Basembo

Andrea also facilitates storytelling workshops for adults and children in various national festivals and is involved in numerous social projects. These include Yeyele Bafazi Crafts, a bead crafting project aiming to empower women through crafting and Sifunda Sidlala Children's Cultural Group, where children meet to dance, act and learn to do beadwork. Their goal is to teach life skills through applying the principles and ideas of the performing arts.

Besides her extensive theatre career Andrea also has experience in television and film. She featured in international movies such as The Final Solution, The Piano Player and landed parts in local television productions like Big Okes, Backstage, Madam and Eve, Thetha Msawawa, The Ringmaster, and Unchain My Heart . She is also part of the ensemble casts for multiaward winning shows Stokvel and Home Affairs.
