The Durban International Film Festival gets nominated at the African Film Development Awards 2013
It is with great pleasure that the Durban International Film Festival, South Africa’s longest-running film festival now in its 34th year, announces and celebrates its nomination in the ‘Most Outstanding Film Festival in Africa’ category of the 2013 African Film Development Awards.
Established in Tanzania in May 2012, the African Film Development Awards is geared at recognizing and celebrating excellent individuals and organizations that have become notable in their contribution towards the growth and development of African Cinema mores. Nominees include filmmakers, heads of government, corporate organizations, film promoters, distributors, media and film journalists from over 30 African countries. The awards ceremony takes place in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, on June 29, 2013.
Under the leadership of newly-appointed film manager Peter Machen, the Durban International Film Festival continues to flourish and remains committed to bringing the very best of local and international cinema. With this year’s festival programme currently nearing completion, audiences can once again expect an exciting range of features, documentaries, short films and surf films, which guarantee to satisfy every cinema-loving palate.
The Durban International Film Festival takes place from July 18 – 28.
The 34th Durban International Film Festival is organised by the Centre for Creative Arts (University of KwaZulu-Natal) with support by the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (principal funder), National Film and Video Foundation, KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development and Tourism, HIVOS, City of Durban, German Embassy, Goethe Institut, Industrial Development Corporation, KwaZulu-Natal Department of Arts and Culture, and a range of other valued partners.
